Crobh Dearg settled down on the dirt strewn floor of the dens, Hok’ee lay beside her, licking his wounded paw and HonioHaka was jumping up to bite her earring. Molimo's grave had been re-opened; Hawahkan, the spirit within his decayed body had taken over. Darkness advanced over the pack lands, and despair developed in the hearts of the pack. The older wolf that lay across from Crobh Dearg laid his head in his paws. His name was Sethos and he had come suddenly to her that day, bringing Molimo’s lost son HonioHaka with him. Osamu, the leader of Molimo’s old pack, had tried to kill all three of them and they had become separated. The pups, Hok’ee and HonioHaka looked tired and wouldn’t settle down. Crobh Dearg thought how she had once been like this and began to tell them a story…A story passed down through the generations of her pack. “In the beginning of our world there were four wolves. Fate, of the sky, Rage of the sea, Light of the flame and Aurora of the land.

“The four wolves were in constant conflict. Not because they detested each other, but because that is how our kind began, and how some of us still are.” She hung her head, her scar throbbing unnaturally. “Fate and Aurora fought together against Light and Rage. One day Fate had Rage at his mercy and Rage begged him to let her go. Fate agreed but on one condition. Rage was to give him some of her sea and he would leave her in peace this time. Fate toyed with the sea, what should he do with it? In the end he decided to make a cub, more powerful than Rage or He on their own were. He named the young wolf Enapay, which means Bravery. Fate did not need the wolf so he decided to let him roam on the earth. Unknown to Fate and the others Rage had stolen some of the sky and made her own wolf. He was pure evil, and she named him Hawahkan, the one of the mysterious voice. She named him this because he was even darker than HonioHaka or I and he only went out at night. So no-one ever saw his real form.”

Sethos was watching Crobh Dearg with interest, as if he was surprised she knew the tale of the two wolves. She continued with her story. “Hawahkan and Enapay were mortal enemies and for many years they fought against each other. While all they could focus on was their never ending fight against each other the world changed around them, new animals and places popped up every day. They blamed their creators for these new challenges and continued to fight until one day Enapay saw the destruction their fighting had caused. He sacrificed himself for the world we now live in. With Enapay gone Hawahkan had no purpose and he killed himself. Because of what Enapay did the world has lived in harmony for hundreds of years. The end.”

Crobh Dearg yawned and looked from HonioHaka to Hok’ee; both were asleep on the floor. She heard a rustling sound as the large white brute across from her rose lazily and walked from the cave. Sethos gestured for her to follow him; he looked slightly taken aback by her story. Crobh Dearg followed him and they sat in the pale moonlight. Sethos stared at the thick crescent in the sky and said in his deep rumbling voice. “That is not where the story ends. There is more. And I believe you are not telling what happened to the full extent.”

Crobh Dearg nodded and began the second part of the story.
